International Day

From cruising in a Mustang convertible to the thrill of a Harley Davidson ride, International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) was celebrated in style at Minda on December 3.

Activities on the lawns at Minda Brighton included Harley rides, cruising in a Mustang convertible, a petting zoo, quadricycle bikes, entertainment from our favourite band R-U Serious, a visit from Santa, and a sausage sizzle complete with chocolate mousse.

IDPwD acknowledges the contributions, skills and achievements of people with disability.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Darren Button says this year’s theme for IDPwD was ‘Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality’.

“There are celebrations just like ours all over the world, with people coming together to improve the lives of people with disability and to build a society that supports people with disability to fulfil their potential, as equal citizens,” Darren says.

“Although we celebrate International Day once a year, fostering inclusion and building opportunity for people with disability is something we do every day at Minda and it’s something I’m so proud of.”

Darren thanked volunteers who made the IDPwD celebration possible, including corporate supporters from Phil Hoffmann Travel who cooked the barbecue, Stillwell Ford for loaning the Mustang convertible, Kev’s Kool Wheels for bringing the quadricycles, band R-U Serious, and of course Santa who took time out of his busy schedule!
